About the Fletching Calculator OSRS

Plan Your Entire Fletching Journey Before Buying Supplies. Calculate items needed, logs required, feathers, tips, total GP cost, and profit/loss for every fletching production category — bows, arrows, bolts, darts, crossbows, javelins, and shields. or head back to the main construction calculator OSRS for a full 1-99 breakdown.

Whether you're dart-fletching for the fastest XP in the game, AFK bow cutting for relaxed training, producing broad bolts for profit, or progressing as an Ironman with self-sourced logs, this calculator estimates everything you need.

Which Type of Fletching Are You Planning?

Fast XP Training

Dart fletching is the fastest XP method in Fletching — and one of the fastest in the entire game. Dragon Darts give 25 XP each at ~70,000 darts/hour, yielding 1.75M XP/hr. Rune Darts (18.8 XP) are significantly cheaper for similar speeds.

AFK Bow Cutting

Longbow cutting from logs is highly AFK. Yew Longbows (u) give 75 XP each. You can cut while watching videos or doing other activities. ~2,500 bows/hr for ~187K XP/hr.

Ammo Production

Broad Bolts (3 XP each, level 55) and Broad Arrows (10 XP each, level 52) offer solid XP with Slayer Point efficiency. Bolt and arrow production is semi-AFK with batches of 10-15.

Profit Crafting

Yew and Magic Longbows (strung) often sell for more than their materials. Certain bolts also profit depending on market conditions. Check GE prices before bulk buying.

Ironman Progression

Cut bows from logs you gather. String with bowstrings from flax or Temple Trekking. A natural progression from low-tier to Magic Longbows. Broad ammunition uses Slayer Points.

Bow Cutting & Stringing

Cut logs into unstrung bows (AFK, moderate XP) then string them with bowstrings for additional XP. Yew and Magic Longbows are the most popular. Cutting = 67.5-91.5 XP. Stringing adds profit potential.

Arrow Production

Attach arrowheads to headless arrows. Broad Arrows (10 XP, level 52) are the most efficient. Made in batches of 15. ~60,000 arrows/hr possible at 600K XP/hr with Broad Arrows.

Bolt Manufacturing

Attach bolt tips to bolt shafts. Broad Bolts (3 XP, level 55) are very popular. Gem-tipped bolts can profit on certain combinations.

Dart Fletching

The fastest Fletching XP in the game. Attach dart tips to feathers. Dragon Darts = 25 XP × 70,000/hr = 1.75M XP/hr. Very click-intensive but unmatched speed.

Crossbows & Stocks

Attach limbs to stocks for moderate XP. Less popular but provides balanced training. Rune Crossbow (u) at 50 XP is the best option.

Javelins & Throwing Weapons

Attach javelin heads to shafts. Made in batches of 15. Dragon Javelins (15 XP, level 92) are in high demand for raids. Can be profitable during raid seasons.

Wooden Shields

Craft shields from two logs each. Redwood Shields give 150 XP at level 92. A niche method that uses Woodcutting output.

Logs

Normal, Oak, Willow, Maple, Yew, Magic, and Redwood logs. Buy from GE or chop yourself. Yew and Magic are the most commonly used for mid-to-high level training.

Bow Strings

Made from flax on a spinning wheel. Buy from GE (~120 GP each) or collect from Temple Trekking. Required for stringing all bows.

Feathers

Extremely cheap (~3 GP each). Required for arrows, darts, bolts, and javelins. Buy in bulk from fishing shops or the GE.

Arrowheads

Made via Smithing or bought from GE. Bronze to Dragon. Broad Arrowheads require Slayer Points to unlock.

Bolt Tips

Cut from gems or bought from stores. Broad Bolt Tips from Slayer Masters. Dragon bolts from GE.

Dart Tips

Smithed from bars or bought from GE. Bronze to Dragon. Higher-tier tips are expensive but give more XP.

Crossbow Limbs

Smithed from bars. Combined with stocks cut from logs to make crossbow (u). Requires both Smithing and Fletching.

How This Calculator Produces Accurate Results

XP Remaining Calculation

Target level XP minus current XP using the OSRS experience table.

Production Quantity Formula

Items Needed = ⌈XP Remaining ÷ XP per Item⌉. For batch items (arrows, darts), this accounts for sets of 10-15.

Material Requirement Formula

Materials = Items × Materials per Item. Bows need 1 log each, arrows need tips + feathers, etc.

Live GP Cost Analysis

Total Cost = Items × GE Price per Material. Compares buy price vs sell price of finished products.

Profit & Loss Estimation

Profit = (Items × Sell Price) − Total Cost. Positive = profit while training.

GP per XP Comparison

Net cost per XP gained. Negative values indicate you earn GP while gaining XP.

Advanced Optimization Tips

Buy Materials During Price Drops

Log and feather prices fluctuate. Buy when supply is high.

Compare Bow Cutting vs Stringing

Cutting is more AFK. Stringing often profits more. Do both for maximum XP.

Switch Methods at Key Unlocks

Always switch to the highest available item. Yew at 65, Magic at 80, Dragon Darts at 95.

Balance XP and Profit

Alternate between profitable bow stringing and fast dart fletching.

Track Live GE Margins

Some items flip from loss to profit daily. Check margins before bulk buying.

Don't Overbuy Supplies

Buy in batches of 5K-10K. Market prices shift and better methods may become available.

Common Fletching Planning Mistakes

  • Training only for XP without checking GP/XP — Darts are fast but expensive. Bows can profit.
  • Ignoring profitable bolt and arrow methods — Certain combinations yield steady profit.
  • Buying expensive logs too early — Use cheaper logs until you unlock higher-tier items.
  • Using outdated Grand Exchange prices — Check current prices before bulk purchases.
  • Forgetting stringing profitability — Stringing bows often profits even when cutting doesn't.
  • Choosing darts when GP is limited — Darts cost significant GP. Use bows or bolts if budget is tight.
  • Not comparing AFK versus high-intensity methods — Consider your available attention level.
