Whether you're burning willows for speed, running Wintertodt for profit, preparing pyre logs for Prayer, or planning an efficient path to 99, this calculator handles every Firemaking method with accurate XP rates and GP cost estimates.
Rather than starting with log types, begin with player objectives. Each path dynamically changes calculator recommendations.
Burn Magic Logs (303.8 XP each) or Redwood Logs (350 XP each) for the fastest XP rates. Expect 150K–175K XP/hr with efficient line burning. Cost is high but time is minimized.
Willow Logs cost as little as 20 GP each while providing 90 XP. At ~500 logs/hr, that's 45K XP/hr for almost nothing. The most budget-friendly route to 99.
Wintertodt after level 50 provides Firemaking XP while earning supply crates worth thousands of GP. The only Firemaking method that generates profit rather than consuming GP.
Ironmen should bank logs from Woodcutting and burn them. Wintertodt is especially powerful for early Ironman accounts, providing seeds, herbs, ores, and other useful resources from supply crates.
Line burning any log type in long rows at the Grand Exchange is semi-AFK. Wintertodt requires periodic attention but offers longer sessions between inputs.
Instead of listing methods individually, compare them by performance. The official Firemaking calculator supports multiple categories including regular logs, pyre logs, and XP modifiers, while Wintertodt remains one of the most efficient overall methods for many accounts.
| Training Method | XP Rate | GP Cost | AFK Level | Profit | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Regular Logs | High | High | Medium | No | Fast XP |
| Wintertodt | High | Profit | Medium | Excellent | Most Players |
| Pyre Logs | Medium | Variable | Low | Situational | Niche Training |
| Banked Logs | Depends | Low | Medium | No | Ironmen |
| Premium Logs | Very High | Very High | Medium | No | Wealthy Accounts |
Organize progression around meaningful checkpoints. Each milestone includes recommended method, approximate materials, time estimate, and unlocks gained.
At level 15, Oak Logs become available at 60 XP each. A significant jump from regular logs (40 XP). Burn approximately 150 oaks to reach level 30 for Willow Logs. Time: ~30 minutes. Cost: ~2,250 GP.
Reach level 50 to unlock Wintertodt. From level 30, burn Willow Logs (~1,100 willows needed). Time: ~2.2 hours. Cost: ~22,000 GP. Many players rush to 50 specifically for Wintertodt access.
At level 60+, Yew Logs (202.5 XP) become efficient. At level 75, Magic Logs (303.8 XP) offer the fastest non-Redwood rates. Expensive but fast.
Multiple Achievement Diaries require Firemaking levels: Level 49 for Desert Medium, Level 65 for Kandarin Hard, Level 79 for Lumbridge Elite. Plan your training around these milestones.
From level 90, you need ~8.2M XP. With Redwood Logs (350 XP each), that's ~23,400 logs and ~47 hours. With Wintertodt, roughly 1,600-2,000 games over ~320-400 hours. Most players use a combination.
Instead of only comparing XP, compare value. For every log: XP each, required level, approximate cost, GP per XP, and best use case.
40 XP • Level 1 • ~100 GP each • 2.5 GP/XP • Best for levels 1-15. Cheap and readily available. Not worth buying in bulk.

Wintertodt requires 50 Firemaking and rewards players with Firemaking XP, supply crates, and the exclusive Pyromancer outfit, which increases Firemaking XP gained when the full outfit is worn.
As soon as you reach level 50 Firemaking. Many players rush to 50 with willows specifically for Wintertodt access. Low-level accounts benefit most from supply crate rewards since loot scales with other skill levels.
XP per game scales with your Firemaking level. At level 50: ~480 XP/game. At level 90: ~640 XP/game. From 50 to 99, expect roughly 1,800-2,200 games depending on points earned per game.
You earn 1 supply crate per 500 points. Most players average 500-750 points per game, earning 1-2 crates. Crates contain seeds, herbs, ores, fish, and unique items.
The Pyromancer outfit drops from supply crates. Full set provides +2.5% Firemaking XP. Pieces: Pyromancer Hood, Garb, Robe, and Boots. Average ~40-60 crates per piece.
XP formula: Base XP + (Firemaking Level × 4) per game. Higher Firemaking = more XP per game. At level 99, each game gives approximately 680+ XP.
Check your bank for logs from Woodcutting, PvM drops, and clue scrolls. Burning banked logs costs zero GP and gives the same XP as purchased logs.
Wintertodt is the only Firemaking method that generates GP. Supply crates average 10K-30K GP depending on your other skill levels. High-level accounts earn significantly more.
Grand Exchange prices fluctuate daily. Willow logs sometimes drop to 5 GP each. Check current prices before bulk buying — a few GP difference per log matters when buying thousands.
The Pyromancer Outfit provides +2.5% XP. This saves approximately 325K logs across the entire 1-99 grind. Get it from Wintertodt supply crates as early as possible.
Willow Logs at 0.22 GP/XP are 14× cheaper than Magic Logs at 3.13 GP/XP. The time difference is significant, but the cost difference is enormous. Balance speed with budget.
Uses the official OSRS experience table. Each level requires progressively more XP — level 92 is the halfway point to 99 at 6.5M XP.
Target Level XP − Current XP = XP Remaining. If you enter custom XP, it overrides the level-based calculation for precise results.
The calculator filters methods by your current level. Wintertodt requires level 50, Redwood Logs require level 90. Only available methods are shown.
Logs Needed = ⌈XP Remaining ÷ XP per Log⌉. Adjusted for Pyromancer outfit bonus when enabled (+2.5% effective XP per log).
Total Cost = Logs Needed × Current GE Price per Log. Wintertodt shows estimated profit from supply crates instead of cost.
Hours = Logs Needed ÷ Logs per Hour. Standard rates: ~500 logs/hr for line burning, ~400/hr for pyre logs, ~5 Wintertodt games/hr.
