The Combat Calculator OSRS is a free tool that uses the official OSRS combat formula to determine your exact combat level from your seven combat-related skills. Your combat level is a single number between 3 and 126 that represents your overall combat strength and determines which players can attack you in PvP zones.
Understanding your combat level matters because it directly affects your gameplay. In the Wilderness, your combat level determines the range of players who can attack you. For PvM, certain bosses and activities recommend minimum combat levels. For account builds — especially pures, zerkers, and med-levels — knowing exactly which skills increase your combat level is essential.
The combat formula considers only one offensive style (melee, ranged, or magic) — whichever gives the highest value. This means training only one offensive style keeps your combat level lower while maximizing your offensive power.
PvM players use it to track their combat progression toward boss requirements. PKers and pure builds rely on it to plan stat distributions that maximize damage while minimizing combat level. Ironmen need it for efficient progression planning. Main accounts use it to understand how each level-up affects their overall combat.
The combat calculator requires seven inputs: Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer, Ranged, and Magic. Each skill contributes differently to the combat formula.
First, the base combat score is computed from Defence, Hitpoints, and Prayer. Then the three offensive scores (melee, ranged, magic) are calculated separately. The highest offensive score is combined with the base score to produce the final combat level.

Melee = 0.325 × (Attack + Strength). Both Attack and Strength contribute equally to the melee offensive score.
Ranged = 0.325 × ⌊Ranged × 1.5⌋. The 1.5× multiplier means Ranged has higher impact per level than Attack or Strength individually.
Magic = 0.325 × ⌊Magic × 1.5⌋. Like Ranged, Magic receives a 1.5× multiplier in the combat formula.
Combat Level = Base + Max(Melee, Ranged, Magic). Only the highest offensive style counts — the other two are ignored entirely.

Attack improves melee accuracy and is required for weapon upgrades. Each Attack level adds 0.325 to your melee score, which only matters if melee is your highest offensive style.
Strength increases your maximum melee hit. Like Attack, it adds 0.325 per level to the melee score.
Defence always contributes to your combat level through the base combat formula. Each level adds 0.25 to your base score.
Prayer contributes at half value (floored). Every 2 Prayer levels adds 0.25 to your base combat score. Odd levels have no effect.
Hitpoints always counts toward base combat. Since Hitpoints levels naturally through combat training, it consistently raises combat level.
Ranged has a 1.5× multiplier, making it the highest individual skill impact. Each Ranged level adds 0.4875 to the ranged offensive score.
Magic also receives the 1.5× multiplier, giving it the same per-level impact as Ranged (0.4875 per level).

In the Wilderness, you can be attacked by players within a range determined by your combat level and the Wilderness level (depth). The formula is: Attackable Range = Your Combat Level ± Wilderness Level.
At Wilderness level 1, a combat 80 player can be attacked by players from combat 79 to 81. At Wilderness level 20, that same player faces anyone from combat 60 to 100. Deep Wilderness expands PvP brackets dramatically.

Pures keep Defence at 1 to maintain the lowest possible combat level while maximizing offensive stats. They dominate low-level PvP brackets.
An Obsidian Pure wears full Obsidian armour without any Defence requirement and relies on the Berserker Necklace for damage.
Zerkers train Defence to 45 for Berserker Helm and complete Recipe for Disaster for Barrows Gloves. Combat level typically sits around 78–100.
Void Pures use Void Knight equipment with 42 Defence and 44 Prayer, offering strong accuracy bonuses at a moderate combat level.
Med-levels train all combat stats to 70–80, offering versatility in both PvP and PvM while staying under combat 115.
Main accounts aim for 99 in all combat stats, reaching combat level 126 — the maximum possible.
