Slayer Helm (i) adds 15% to both accuracy and damage on task. This single item often outweighs any other equipment upgrade for max hit on Slayer assignments.
In PvP, max hit determines KO potential. Stack Piety + Super Combat + Slayer Helm to find the highest possible hit for special attack KOs.
Raid bosses have specific defence profiles. Calculate your max hit with different styles to plan optimal gear switches between phases.
Compare budget weapons to expensive ones. The difference between a Dragon Scimitar and Ghrazi Rapier might only be 5-8 max hit — is it worth 90M GP?
Dharok's at 1 HP with Piety, Super Combat, and Slayer Helm can achieve 99+ max hits. The calculator models this scaling precisely.
| Goal | Priority | Max Hit Importance | Best Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bossing | High | ★★★★★ | Consistent Damage |
| Slayer | Medium | ★★★★☆ | Faster Kills |

Instead of listing equipment, compare upgrade categories to find the most cost-effective max hit increases.
Weapons provide the largest strength bonus changes. Upgrading from Abyssal Whip (Str +82) to Ghrazi Rapier (Str +89) adds 2-3 max hit depending on other bonuses.
Bandos Tassets, Primordial Boots, Berserker Ring (i), and Avernic Defender all add strength bonus points that directly increase max hit.
Piety provides +23% to Strength. This is the single largest free damage multiplier available — always activate it for max hit testing.
Super Combat boosts Strength by +15% +5, adding approximately 18 effective levels. This translates to 5-8 additional max hit depending on equipment.
Some special attacks multiply damage: Dragon Claws (4-hit spec), Armadyl Godsword (25% damage increase), Dragon Dagger (double hit). These can dramatically increase effective max hit.
Max hit calculators commonly account for effective strength level, equipment strength bonus, prayers, potions, and conditional bonuses such as Slayer Helmet, Salve, Dragon Hunter equipment, Arclight, and Dharok's.
Your effective strength = (Base Level + Potion Boost) × Prayer Multiplier + Style Bonus + 8. Every point of effective strength adds roughly 0.5–1.0 to max hit.
The total strength bonus from all equipped items. Max Hit formula: floor(0.5 + Effective Str × (Str Bonus + 64) / 640). Higher strength bonus = higher max hit.
Aggressive style adds +3 to effective strength. Controlled adds +1. This directly affects max hit calculation.
Prayers multiply your effective level: Piety = ×1.23, Ultimate Strength = ×1.15, Chivalry = ×1.18. These are multiplicative with other bonuses.
Super Strength adds +15%+5 to your Strength level. At 99 Strength, this adds ~18 effective levels — one of the biggest single boosts available.
Void Knight adds 10% damage. Dharok's scales with missing HP. These are applied after the base max hit calculation as multipliers.
Slayer Helm (×1.1667), Salve Amulet (×1.20), Dragon Hunter (×1.20), Arclight (×1.70). Only the highest of Slayer/Salve applies — they don't stack.
| Configuration | Max Hit | Damage Bonus | Upgrade Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base Setup (No Boosts) | 32 | +82 | Baseline |
| + Prayer (Piety) | 39 | +82 | +7 (+22%) |
| + Potion (Super Combat) | 44 | +82 | +12 (+38%) |
| + Gear Upgrade (BiS) | 48 | +136 | +16 (+50%) |
| + Slayer Helm (On Task) | 55 | +136 | +23 (+72%) |
For everyday combat, your base max hit determines kill speed. Stack Piety and Super Combat as a baseline for all PvM content.
On-task Slayer Helm provides 15% damage bonus. Calculate your max hit with and without it to see how important staying on task is for efficiency.
Dragon Hunter Lance/Crossbow adds 20% accuracy and damage against dragons. Stack with Piety for massive max hits at Vorkath, dragons, and Olm.
Arclight provides 70% accuracy and damage bonus against demons — the largest single-equipment modifier in OSRS. Essential for Cerberus, K'ril, and demon Slayer tasks.
Salve Amulet (ei) gives 20% accuracy and damage against undead. Doesn't stack with Slayer Helm — use whichever bonus is higher.
Different raid bosses have different weaknesses. Calculate max hit for each style to plan gear switches between phases for optimal team DPS.
A weapon hitting 50 every 5 ticks deals 3.33 DPS. A weapon hitting 35 every 3 ticks deals 3.89 DPS. The faster weapon wins despite lower max hit.
Max hit of 60 with 50% accuracy averages 15 damage per hit. Max hit of 45 with 90% accuracy averages 20.25 per hit. Accuracy dramatically affects real damage.
Blowpipe (3-tick) vs Twisted Bow (5-tick): Blowpipe attacks 67% more often. Even with much lower max hit, Blowpipe's speed makes it competitive or superior on low-defence targets.
In PvP, max hit determines KO potential — you need a single massive hit. In PvM, sustained DPS (considering accuracy and speed) determines kill time.
A higher max hit does not always produce the highest DPS because attack speed and hit chance also influence total damage over time. Prioritize max hit for PvP, spec weapons, and low-defence targets.
| Upgrade Option | Max Hit Gain | Cost | Recommended For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weapon Upgrade | +3-8 | 10M-200M GP | All combat |
| Strength Gear | +1-4 | 5M-50M GP | Slot upgrades |
| Prayer Upgrade | +5-7 | Free (quest) | Every encounter |
| Potion Boost | +4-8 | 5K-15K/dose | Bossing & PvP |
| Special Equipment | +8-20 | Varies | Specific targets |
Dharok's max hit scales with missing HP: multiplier = 1 + (99 - current HP) × 99 / 10000. At 1 HP, this is a ~97% damage increase. Combined with Piety and Super Combat, max hits can exceed 99.
Slayer Helm provides 15% accuracy and damage on task (16.67% melee). Black Mask gives the same melee bonus but requires imbuing for ranged/magic. Only works against your current Slayer assignment.
Salve Amulet (ei) provides 20% accuracy and damage against undead. Does NOT stack with Slayer Helm — even if fighting undead on a Slayer task. Use whichever bonus is higher.
Dragon Hunter Lance (+20% acc/dmg vs dragons) and Dragon Hunter Crossbow (+30% acc, +25% dmg vs dragons) are best-in-slot for all draconic targets. Stack with prayers and potions.
Arclight provides +70% accuracy and damage against demons. This is the highest single-equipment damage modifier in OSRS. Essential for Cerberus, K'ril Tsutsaroth, Skotizo, and Abyssal Sire.
Advanced calculators model conditional effects such as Dharok's missing-HP scaling and monster-specific damage bonuses while preventing incompatible bonus stacking.
