Magic Stones

The most expensive POH material. Each costs ~975K GP. You need 4-5 total for a max house: 2 for Pool, 1 for Nexus, 1 for Jewellery Box, potentially 1 for Occult Altar.

Gold Leaf

Used in many premium items. At ~139K each, you need 15-20 total. The Ornate Jewellery Box alone requires 10 Gold Leaf.

Marble Blocks

Premium decorative material at ~335K each. The Gilded Altar uses 4, the Pool uses 1. Budget for 6-10 total.

Saving on Materials

Buy materials during price dips. Watch GE price trends — Magic Stones and Gold Leaf fluctuate by 5-10% regularly. Bulk buying at the right time saves hundreds of thousands.

Budget Strategy: Spend Smart, Build Smart

Build in Phases

Don't spend your entire budget at once. Build essential rooms first, then upgrade furniture as you earn more GP. Phase 1: Pool + basic teleports. Phase 2: Jewellery Box + Nexus.

Prioritize Utility over Aesthetics

Functional POH features provide daily value. Marble fireplaces and gilded decorations look nice but don't improve gameplay. Spend on utility first.

Account for Hidden Costs

Portal destinations require teleport tablets. Incense burners need marrentill to light. Butler wages add up. Budget 10-15% extra for ongoing costs.

Track Your Spending

Keep a log of GP spent on house upgrades. The calculator above helps estimate total cost, but tracking actual spending prevents budget overruns.

Know When to Stop

Not every room or upgrade provides meaningful value. A functional house with Pool, Jewellery Box, and Portal Nexus covers 95% of daily needs.

How This POH Cost Calculator Works

Budget Tier Analysis

Matches your selected budget to a predefined tier with appropriate rooms and upgrades. Each tier builds on the previous one.

Room Cost Calculation

Sums individual room shell costs. Adjusts for rooms you've already built to avoid double-counting.

Furniture Cost Estimation

Calculates material costs for key furniture based on your furniture tier selection (basic, standard, luxury).

Material Price Lookup

Uses recent GE prices for Magic Stones, Gold Leaf, Marble Blocks, and planks. Cross-reference with live GE data for accuracy.

Budget Tracking

Shows how much of your budget is consumed and how much remains for future upgrades. Helps you plan ahead.

Savings Calculation

Deducts the value of owned materials from total cost, showing only the net investment required.

POH Budgeting Mistakes to Avoid

  • Spending all GP on decoration — Marble floors and gilded items look great but provide zero utility. Build functional items first.
  • Not budgeting for portal destinations — A Portal Nexus is useless without destinations. Budget 500K-1M GP extra for all teleport tablets.
  • Forgetting butler costs — Demon Butler charges 10K GP per 8 trips. Over a full build session, this adds up to millions.
  • Buying materials at peak prices — Watch GE trends and buy during price dips. 5% savings on expensive materials = hundreds of thousands of GP.
  • Overbuilding rooms you don't use — A Menagerie is nice but if you have 0 pets, skip it. Build for your actual gameplay.
  • Not accounting for boost requirements — Many endgame items need +8 boost (Crystal Saw + Spicy Stew). Ensure you have boost items before buying expensive materials.
