Understand Your Rune Investment

Rune Investment Workflow

Select Teleports Calculate Rune Costs (×1,000) Convert to GP Cost Compare Nexus Tiers 🌀 Build Final Teleport Network

Law Rune Requirements

Nearly every teleport requires Law Runes. Budget for 1,000–2,000 Laws per standard teleport at ~150 GP each. This is the single largest rune expense.

Air, Earth, Fire & Water Runes

Elemental runes are cheap (~5 GP each) but required in bulk. Most teleports need 1,000–5,000 elemental runes. Use a staff to reduce costs.

Nature & Cosmic Runes

Required for specific teleports. Nature Runes (~200 GP each) are needed for Harmony Island. Budget these alongside Law Runes.

Astral & Soul Runes

Lunar and Ancient teleports require Astral (~150 GP) and Soul (~200 GP) runes. These are semi-expensive but essential for boss teleports.

Blood Rune Requirements

Ancient Magicks teleports require Blood Runes (~350 GP each). Barrows, Kharyrll, and Wilderness teleports use these. Budget 1,000+ per teleport.

Quest-Specific Resources

Some teleports require quest completion before they can be added. Check Ape Atoll (Monkey Madness), Kharyrll (Desert Treasure), and Kourend (quest requirements).

The calculator multiplies each teleport spell's rune cost by 1,000, which is the permanent unlock requirement for adding that destination to the Portal Nexus.

Costly Portal Nexus Mistakes to Avoid

  • Unlocking teleports you'll rarely use — Each teleport costs 1,000× runes. Prioritize destinations you use daily over niche locations.
  • Building the wrong Nexus tier too early — Start with Marble if budget is limited. You can always upgrade later without losing teleports.
  • Forgetting the 1,000× rune multiplier — Rune costs are multiplied by 1,000 for permanent unlocks. This can cost millions of GP per teleport.
  • Ignoring Magic level requirements — Some teleports require high Magic levels. Check requirements before buying runes you can't use yet.
  • Removing and rebuilding a Portal Nexus unnecessarily — You lose ALL unlocked teleports if you remove the Nexus. Never do this.
  • Prioritizing niche teleports before daily-use locations — Unlock standard city teleports first, then add boss and specialty destinations.
  • Not planning future teleport expansions — OSRS adds new teleports occasionally. Keep slots open on your Nexus for future content.
